A Word About COVID Safety Measures

  1. We can start accepting students on campus at 7:15AM

  2. All students are required by the Vernon Parish School Board to wear a mask designed to reduce the spread of droplets that carry the COVID virus. The VPSB requires these masks be free of any graphics and writing. We will allow graphics or writing that are school spirit in nature such as "Go Big Red" or "Pickering Red Devils". A simple American Flag is fine, also. We want to avoid any statements that can disrupt school or cause anyone to be uncomfortable. If this becomes an issue we will revert to only allowing plain, solid colored masks.

**Any student that cannot wear a mask for medical reasons can request a waiver from the office to be filled out by a medical doctor. That student then must wear a face shield with drape at the bottom of the shield that can tuck unto their shirt.

  1. Please check your student's temperature and make sure they are feeling well before leaving your house. Students will pass by a thermal scanner when arriving to school. If a student has a temperature of 100.4 we will contact you to pick them up and provide you with procedures necessary to follow before they can come back to school. It is vitally important for you to keep your contact information correct with our front office because we absolutely do not want to implement the following required procedures. If we can not contact you within 45 minutes we are required to ask the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Department to contact you. If they can not contact you or you cannot come get your student in a timely manner we are required to call an ambulance to transport your student to the hospital at your expense.

  2. Please send one or two water bottles with your student each day. Our water fountains are turned off per CDC guidance. If providing your student with water bottles is a financial burden, please contact the administration so we can work out a way to discreetly help your child.

  3. Lockers have been assigned in a manner to prevent any two students from being adjacent to one another.

  4. Interior halls are marked for one way traffic. We will ask student to travel in one direction only and at socially appropriate distances. With the A/B schedule and 1/3 of the students 100% virtual, we feel we can appropriately distance the students.

  5. Most students will eat lunch in their classrooms.

  6. Students cannot use the cafeteria microwaves to warm lunches per CDC guidance.

  7. Students will be allowed to go to the restroom from their classes. We cannot let them congregate in the restrooms during class change.

  8. Students will help their teacher disinfect their own learning area when entering a classroom.

The faculty and staff of Pickering High School look forward to the day we can resume normal protocols and procedures. Thank you for your continued support.

Package Prices and Chromebooks

A legal guardian must be present to sign out a Chromebook. Since we have not received our second shipment of Chromebooks yet, we had to prioritize who got a Chromebook. We started with Virtual Only students and then 9-12th grade students. As soon as the second shipment of Chromebooks arrive we will issue every Pickering High School student a unit.

We gladly accept cash or checks for fees. We are sorry, but we have no way to process credit cards.
